It is with great joy and pride that we received the news of the recognition of Dr Hisham Seify, Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery & ECN board president and Dr. Zakaria Y. Reda, member of ECN’s Board, and board-certified in pediatric medicine, pediatric critical care, as top doctors of Orange County. We at 5357 are honored and privileged to share the joy with both of them over this exciting news.

On this special occasion, I had the chance to chat with Dr. El Seify , excerpts from the Interview:

What are the implications of this award and what does it entail?
The Castle Connelly organization and the US news collaborate each year to choose the top doctors and hospitals in the US. The list includes the top 1% and includes all specialties chosen by geographic areas. It was a great honor to be on this list for 4 years on a row since 2013. Dr Zach Reda a well know Pediatrician, intensivist and ECN board member was also awarded this year.

Tell us about your experience as an Egyptian American Physician in the U.S. Do you think the mix of your origins and present environment are the secret of your success?
There is no doubt that our upbringing in Egypt gave us the strength and tools to achieve our dreams in the US. The Egyptians professionals in the US are well respected and very successful. Many of them were exposed to both educational systems in Egypt and the US which made them exceptionally well trained. The first generation always has the challenge of proving itself and working hard to establish its presence in the society. ECN board has many prominent physicians that worked hard for many years to support the hospital ( Drs Sherif Abou El Naga, Mark Kieran, Hussein Abdel Dayem, Walid el Feky, Hesham Hamouda, Zach reda). ECN is very proud to have all of them.

ECN is a bridge between the U.S and Egypt in the global fight against cancer, as its Board President, how do you see this US based 501 C3 non-profit evolving in the future?
Since its inception, ECN was blessed with a great support from the Egyptian American community. 57357 is a unique organization that is second to none in a providing free cure from cancer. The story and mission of 57357 is heard loud and clear within the Arabic Americans and the academic institutions in the US. My dream is to introduce 57357 to the 322 million Americans. It is a success story that need to be told.

I also see ECN evolving into a large size nonprofit brokering the partnership between the US and Egypt in fighting cancer and advancing healthcare, education and the quality of life in the MENA region.

ECN is committed to supporting Hospital 57357’s future capacity expansion as well as its training and education needs, how did you receive the news of its imminent JCI accreditation?
The JCI accreditation was not a surprise to us as board members and supporters. We know first-hand the quality of the care and management of the hospital. The news will definitely reinforce the trust of the donors and supporters in this successful organization. Even in the US all large hospitals work hard to meet the requirement of the JACHO.
For me the more important observation was the pride that I saw in every one’s eye at the hospital or in Egypt in general when this news was announced. It tells me that this project became a national pride to all Egyptians!
