In a strategic move to optimize resources and ensure uninterrupted emergency care, our hospital has temporarily relocated its emergency care services to a nearby facility. This decision is part of a broader initiative to upgrade our emergency department, enhancing its capacity and efficiency.
Efficient Use of Resources
To maximize the impact of donor contributions and manage expenditures effectively, we have meticulously planned the utilization of our existing resources. This approach ensures that every dollar is spent wisely, contributing to the overall improvement of our services.
Rapid Progress in Emergency Department Upgrades
The emergency department, a critical lifeline for children with cancer facing emergencies due to disease complications and weakened immunity, is undergoing significant upgrades. Recognizing that every second counts in emergency care, we ensured that the transfer to the new temporary location was seamless and swift. Planning for this upgrade began months ago, and the actual transfer took place on April 25th, with the new location becoming operational the same day.
Uninterrupted Service During Transition
Our top priority was to maintain the same high quality of emergency care during the transition. To achieve this, we began operations at the new temporary location before closing the main emergency department. This proactive approach ensured that there was no disruption in service. We successfully moved all necessary equipment and prepared 26 beds at the new site. Our dedicated staff and nurses have been working tirelessly to provide comfort and timely care to our young patients.
Commitment to Expanding Capacity
Dr. Ahmed Emad, head of the emergency department, emphasized the importance of this upgrade: “The purpose of the upgrading operation is to offer a bigger place to be able to receive more children, which means saving the lives of the largest number of children exposed to health crises during the treatment period.”
Future Plans
Currently, we are disassembling equipment in the old location, carefully preserving reusable parts to ensure maximum resource efficiency. The new emergency department is expected to be completed within nine months. Once finished, the temporary location will serve as an extension of the department, providing additional capacity to accommodate children when inpatient beds are unavailable.
This strategic relocation and upgrade project underscores our commitment to providing the best possible care for our patients, ensuring that no child in need of emergency care is left without support.
